Dr. Miller started college a year early, skipping his senior year of high school. He returned to Morrow Senior High for graduation with his class in 1972 (the first graduating class of Morrow High). He completed his associate degree in 1973 at Clayton Junior College (now Clayton State College) and went on to the University of Georgia (GO DAWGS!) and received his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry in 1975.
After graduation, Dr. Miller worked for a year as a research chemist for the University of Georgia's Food Science department at the Experiment Station in Griffin, Georgia.
Dr. Miller attended dental school at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta from 1976 until 1980. He graduated ranked first in his class and joined the United States Air Force Dental Corps. From 1980 through 1981, he received additional dental training in a General Practice Residency in Shreveport, Louisiana (Barksdale AFB). He feels that the training he received in the various dental specialties gives him a unique ability to communicate well with his referring general and family dentists, thus being able to understand their needs and concerns.
After spending three years practicing general dentistry at Moody AFB in Valdosta, Georgia, Dr. Miller began his orthodontic training, again at the Medical College of Georgia. He feels especially fortunate to have been chosen by the Air Force to receive a full scholarship for his orthodontic training at MCG. He was one of only several Air Force dentists to receive such a scholarship that year (1984).
Dr. Miller completed his orthodontic residency in 1986 and was stationed at the Weisbaden Regional Medical Center near Frankfurt, Germany from 1986 through 1989, when he left the Air Force for private practice. After working as an associate in a Metro-Atlanta practice for a year, Dr. Miller opened his practice in LaGrange in 1990.
While in training, Dr. Miller was the primary author of two articles/case reports that appeared in major professional journals, one in the area of oral surgery (during his general practice residency) and the other in orthodontics (published after his completion of his orthodontic residency).
Dr. Miller is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Dental Association, Georgia Dental Association, American Association of Orthodontists, Southern Association of Orthodontists, Georgia Association of Orthodontists, Alpha Omega honorary dental fraternity, Pierre Fauchard Academy (honorary dental society), the MCG Orthodontic Alumni Association and the West Georgia Dental Study Club. He received his Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry in 1992, and became certified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics in 2007.
Dr. Miller remains involved in the local community and strongly supports the United Way, Troup County Parks and Recreation and the Pregnancy Center of LaGrange. Dr. Miller is very active in his church, and enjoys music, photography, traveling and walking for fitness.
Finally, in Dr. Miller's own words:
"I am deeply committed to my practice, both as a profession and as a family enterprise, and to my wife, Cindy, who works in my office as my full-time office manager. I thank her for her endless love and support."
"I am thankful to my parents for instilling in me an appreciation for the value of education and hard work. I am also thankful to my grown children for adopting the same appreciation. They make me proud."
"Lastly, and most importantly, I thank my God for all the blessings and opportunities he has given me and especially for the precious gift of His Son."
